The beautiful, messy reality of moving

When you look at a new church plant from the outside, it can look like a series of exciting milestones—the decision to go, the first team weekend away, the new website! But behind the scenes of every transition is a deeply human, beautifully messy story.

Lately, our story has felt a lot more messy than beautiful.

Moving our lives to Eindhoven has taken a toll. The process has been a rollercoaster of stress and vulnerability. Back in the UK, our house sale faced major, exhausting delays. The mental preoccupation of it all caught up with me physically; after thirty years of accident-free driving, I managed to get into two minor car mishaps in a short span of time. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but they were highly inconvenient, incredibly costly, and a stark reminder of just how distracted and overwhelmed my brain had become.

Then there is the emotional weight. Leaving friends after building years of deep, irreplaceable community is a quiet heartbreak. Arriving here, we've stepped into the profound vulnerability of navigating a new language, a new legal status, figuring out how (and when) to move money across borders, and living with the unsettling reality of not yet having a permanent home.

In moments like these, it is easy to let anxiety take the wheel. I can find myself searching frantically for stability, for an end to the paperwork, or just for a place to finally unpack our boxes and rest.

But this season is teaching me something profound about what true rest actually is.

Rest isn't a finalized housing contract. It isn't a settled bank account or a fluent command of Dutch. Rest isn't a place or a set of perfect circumstances at all. Rest is a person, and His name is Jesus.

When the ground beneath us feels completely unsteady, He remains our constant. He doesn't demand that we have it all together, and He doesn't expect us to pretend the transition is easy. Instead, He simply invites us to bring our messy, exhausted, preoccupied selves to Him and find peace.

We don't have all the logistical answers yet, and our lives are still very much in transit. But we are learning that it's okay to be vulnerable. If you are navigating your own messy season, feeling overwhelmed by change, or just looking for a space where you don't have to pretend you have it all together, we want you to know you aren’t alone.

Our community is being built by imperfect people who are learning to lean on a perfect Saviour. Come and see for yourself. Let’s navigate the mess, the beauty, and the journey of faith together.
