Made to shape: faith in the city of innovation

It is impossible to walk around Eindhoven without recognising you are in the design capital of the Netherlands. From the industrial transformation of Strijp-S to Dutch Design Week, this city is alive with creativity. When I think about this kinetic design culture I applaud it because design matters deeply to God.
In Culture Making, author Andy Crouch notes that culture is simply "what human beings make of the world." When visual or product designers take raw materials and shape them with intention, they are reflecting the ultimate Creator.
The late pastor Tim Keller took this further in Every Good Endeavor, explaining that human creativity actively echoes divine craftsmanship. He wrote:
"Whenever we bring order out of chaos, whenever we draw out creative potential... we are following God’s pattern of creative cultural development."
God did not just engineer a world that works; He designed a world that sparks wonder. When a graphic designer refines typography or a product designer builds a tool to solve a human problem, they are bringing order, beauty, and harmony to our shared spaces.
We want to build a church community that mirrors the best elements of good design: intentional, welcoming, and beautifully functional in serving our neighbours.
